Victoria Mxenge #21Sheroes

In the run-up to the elections, we’re celebrating #21Sheroes – some of the women who fought a racist, apartheid state to help win our freedoms. Their resistance, courage & protest inspired a legacy we honour in Freedom Month. They also remind us never to take our political rights for granted. Follow #21Sheroes for more.

As a human rights lawyer & struggle activist, Victoria Mxenge fought to defend victims of apartheid & fiercely opposed state brutality. Her murder by security police - in front of her children in the driveway of her home - sparked mass public protests. This #FreedomMonth, we honour the sacrifices made for our democracy by remembering that voting is our right & our responsibility.
