In the run-up to the elections, we’re celebrating #21Sheroes – some of the women who fought a racist, apartheid state to help win our freedoms. Their resistance, courage & protest inspired a legacy we honour in Freedom Month. They also remind us never to take our political rights for granted. Follow #21Sheroes for more.
At a time when black women had no voice or power, Cissie Gool broke through barriers to become a lawyer & serve in local government to advocate for the oppressed & poor. The ‘Joan of Arc of District Six’ fought against segregation & resisted the injustice of apartheid. The women who led us to freedom remind us of our duty to participate in our democracy this #FreedomMonth.
